WHY DOGS?: Lilly the Dachshund

WHY DOGS? Because DOGS are some of the most beloved creatures on the planet, our goal is to aid communication (sometimes challenging) between humans and their DOGS. We especially welcome comments regarding your canine relationship in the hope that other readers will gain from your experience. Lilly the Dachshund

The other day I was watching my friend Sheila interact with her adorable 1-year-old dachshund Lilly. Lilly shot her owner one of those soulful pleading looks that seem to say so much and cocked her head to one side. I said, "What's she saying, Sheila." Sheila laughed. "If I could figure that out, I'd be rich."

I thought, yeah...we might all be rich or at least less frustrated if we could talk "Dog talk." Then it dawned on me that maybe there were some folks out there that knew how to interpret their dog's actions, grunts and doggie behavior.

Anyone got any ideas or stories out there to help folks like my friend Sheila?

I know it sounds crazy but I talk to my dog(s) all the time. And we understand one another. People have asked me, "Can dogs think?" Well, of course they can and do. It takes patience and time to understand your dog(s) but it can be done. Look into their eyes and in time you will SEE what they are thinking. Murphy

Dear Buddy,

I've never written to a dog before, but I might as well give it a shot. My dog Murdock an English Sheepdog has been moping around the house for maybe 2 weeks. Neither my husband or I can figure out what's wrong with him. Only change has been we bought him a new bed made out of softer materials. He sleeps on it, but seems restless. Any ideas?

I think you should try bringing back Murdock's old bed for a while and see if his behavior changes. It makes us dogs uneasy when someone changes things we're used to.

Our beagle has itching problems and scratches or licks his itchy spots sometimes for a long time. What can we do to help him?

This is not easy to answer. Being a beagle, I've had many of the same problems. I did a little research on dog skin problems and found out that dogs often suffer from allergies just like humans.
